Filed under: Go Sit Down, Judge Joe Brown Says : "DO BETTER.", PoliTricks as Usual

…if Cotton Hill McCain meets an untimely demise and Tina Fey Sarah Palin somehow becomes leader of the free world. Cause if it goes down like that, we are soooo screwed.
I’m sitting in my hotel watching live coverage of a townhall meeting in Grand Rapids, MI on Fox News.[1] This woman must have Cheez Whiz for brains. Someone in the audience asked her a question about the energy crisis, offshore drilling and oil production, which is allegedly her area of expertise.
She proceeded to recite the GOP Talking Points 101 Flashcards she’s been cramming to memorize for weeks, and midway through her explanation, she clearly drew a blank. She then proceeded to “freestyle” her answer, which sounded something like this.
You could literally see John McCain thinking “awww sh*t! I knew I shoulda picked Romney” as he rushed in to grab the mic , cut her off, and completed the thought she so terribly fumbled.
Palin, looking visibly flustered, simply took a few steps back and assumed the usual position.[2] I actually did feel momentarily sad for the woman.
[Editor's Update: I also happened to catch her circle jerk interview with Sean Hannity. He tossed softballs and kept staring at her legs the entire time. Very creepy.]
Momentarily.
In a perfect world, Sarah Palin’s only future relevance would be on the back of a Trivial Pursuit card, not one melanoma away from The Number One Spot. We’ve heard a lot about “empty suits”. Can we all agree to just refer to Palin as an “empty skirt”, or is that just me being incredibly sexist as usual?
Question: Did you see the Palin/McCain townhall I’ve speaking of? Did it frighten you as much as it did me?
[1] I guess I should get a Twitter account for short messages like this. Do any of you Twitter? Could you dumb-down and explain it to me?
[2] And by “usual position”, I mean standing behind McCain, to his right side, looking smarmy and overdressed.

AB, you’ve got true grit. How you manage to sit through a boring, rerun of a McPain-Paylend soap opera (strike that) town hall meeting, inquiring minds would like to know.
If McPain and Paylend pull this one off, it will represent a bigger sell job than the “bridge to nowhere,” the chef that was fired, but not fired, and the jet that was sold on eBay (not).
The gullibility of the American people is in question here; but they have a few weeks to prove me wrong, and convince me that truth and reality matter more than one’s skin color.

Wowzers! (Can’t wait to see how Spool spins this.)

Comment by ebonygentleman September 18, 2008 @ 10:46 am“one melanoma away from the top spot.” SCARY…and oddly amusing when you put it like that. I guess I’d better get my laugh now because if they are in office there won’t be ISH funny then.
Comment by Missy September 18, 2008 @ 1:53 pm@eg: I don’t think that was the right clip, or at least it didn’t have what AB was talking about. They each had a mike, so there was no rushing over to take the mic and complete a thought. He did go on to expand on an answer to a question about her foreign policy experience, but I didn’t see her miss a beat on the one energy question.
Either they edited it out for the compilation you linked, or it’s a different townhall.
Comment by spool32 September 18, 2008 @ 2:04 pmI feel bad for Palin actually. She’s basically like Bush but so innocent and guileless. I personally would rather have a “hockey mom” than a “frat boy” as our president.
Why does the left spend so much energy hating on her instead of boosting Biden? If you want to do damage to her, then completely ignore her (as hard as it is) and focus on who you want to win. Where’s the “hope” peoples?
Comment by Ezra September 18, 2008 @ 2:22 pmMan, Can you imagine O-biden doing a town hall meting? Between Obama’s uhh’s and Biden’s Gaffe making it would definitely be some comedy worth watching.
At least they have the gonads to take questions directly from the people.
The debates are coming..
Comment by Daedalus September 18, 2008 @ 2:54 pmI personally completely ignore McPalin. Politics makes my head hurt. That being said the only speaches I watched were Obama’s, Bill Clinton’s, and McCain’s. I won’t even tune into OBiden’s townhalls.
That’s telling though if the person speaking gets tripped up in what they are saying and need to be saved….especially when it’s about something they are supposed to know all about. But hey what do I know…I didn’t see it.

My stomach is sinking lower and lower every day as I look for some reason to think positive. Somebody help me out with that…..I’m on my knees beggin’ here.
We blew it. And by “we”, I mean collectively us as Democratic supporters (if not necessarily enthusiastic Democrats) when we reacted to Palin’s arrival on the national stage with sophomoric derision, obnoxious condescension and embarrassing chauvinism. I’m mortified at the behavior of a loud minority of us–male and female alike–that threw fuel on the newly lit Republican fire, feeding into their worst stereotypes about “elitists” and giving the backlash righties every reason in the book to flock to her in reflexive defense. Honest to God, what the hell were they thinking? It’s the right’s job to be that tone deaf, not ours. Plus, it just makes us look shallow and petty. (Also the right’s usual forte).
And BTW, how hypocritical was it to raise hell about the media’s sexism toward Hillary and then hurl the “How can she raise five kids…?” sludge at Palin. Anyone want to utter the words “absentee father” at Obama regarding Malia and Sasha? You first. Right. Didn’t think so. It would never have occurred to any of us in a thousand years to say that.
Palin is a very unsettling throwback to a mindset that has no business being within 500 miles of the executive branch, and the fear that it was the atrocious behavior of some Dems and Dem supporters in those critical first few news cycles that may ultimately give McCain the final push over the top is a very bitter pill to swallow.
I’m sorry. I’m ranting. Keyboard diareaha. But for Gawd’s sake—defeating the ignorance and stupidity out there is hard enough without us shooting ourselves in the foot with foolishness taken right out of their vile book.
Comment by Anonymous September 18, 2008 @ 3:52 pmWell at some point you knew the Dems had to get greasy with her but at the right time. At this time it was best to let her buzz die and then people can come off of there Palin *high* and now comes the debilitating crash. Biden is going to KILL her in a Debate.
Comment by cjames30082 September 18, 2008 @ 4:35 pmhave you noticed that you haven’t seen ANY George Bush. The economy is crap…..I just don’t see how the GOP can win. In the ATL they are having voter registration at the club! And if you can show your voter’s registration card you get in free.
Marbles is right about this. It was a poor tactical move by any definition.
Comment by spool32 September 18, 2008 @ 4:39 pmWell, the current conspiracy floating is that McCain is terminally ill and will be departing this earthly vessel within the next 6 months. There’s still a fight to be had right now, but if he were to die before Nov. 4th, Obama just needs to pray for a miracle cuz Yukon Barbie would get enough sympathy votes.
@marbles
It isn’t sexist to ask that question and when the lady in the town hall meeting asked for a specific answer Dum-dum responded “Well, we’ll show them how it’s done!”
Aint no one saying it can’t be done, but to not ask the question I believe is denying her maternal right. Folks just want to know is her husband going to step up, is she going to hire a nanny etc. It’s hard enough raising one kid with two working parents in this day and age, so try five with a newborn.
Moreover, they asked Palin about energy and she didn’t really give a detailed answer. I mean, she was really having fun with this one cuz she had them eating out of the palm of her hand. I mean she dodged EVERY single question except the ANWR one, only because it’s common knowledge they disagree. I mean one old lady read from a card for specifics about what they planned to do with the economy–Palin did not give ONE specific answer.
Comment by the uppity negro September 18, 2008 @ 6:06 pmFrom Marbles:
Uppity Negro:
I didn’t see it, but I don’t doubt it–about the dodging specifics, I mean.
But in my opinion this whole election season, in general, has been too short on hard specifics and much too high on regular old campaign-speak. Even Obama. He’ll break out of it sometimes and be daringly original–it’s part of what created his initial appeal–but not nearly often enough, in my opinion.
I would have hoped that after 8 years of this insanity, people would have finally gotten fed up with sound bites, empty platitudes and the brain cell-kiling language of Campaignese. I mean, there are urgent issues looming. REALLY urgent. How people can STILL think we can afford this kind of silliness in electing our leaders is beyond understanding. I just do not get it.
BTW–you said “Folks just want to know is her husband going to step up, is she going to hire a nanny etc.”
Comment by Anonymous September 18, 2008 @ 6:49 pmSure. That’s understandable to a degree. But the thing is, it didn’t begin there and it didn’t end there. Maybe if it had been only that, and worded more diplomatically than anyone felt the need to bother with, it wouldn’t have grated the way it does.
I didn’t see the townhall meeting but I did see her answer a question about the whole AIG thing and she sounded like a complete twit. I clearly understand why the GOP is limiting the media’s access to hear.
This goes back to what I have been saying for months. THE GOP AIN’T TRYIN TO WIN. Sure, they are trying to get some buzz, etc but eventually most voter will see she is an empty suit.
** Side note, probably best to stick with the empty suit crack and not the empty skirt. Sounds kinda sexist bro. Besides, the fact that she is a twit has nothing to do with her sex. She would be an equally vapid dude.
All this drama around the election is not distracting me from what’s really going on. And that’s this….WE ARE IN TROUBLE regardless of who wins…gas prices, inflation, unemployment, financial markets, credit, etc….man, we are able to catch hell in the next few years…
Comment by Huntdaddy September 18, 2008 @ 7:20 pmHer Hannity interview is actually worse. I didn’t even know that was possible.
The polls are showing a swing back in Obama’s favor. I guess her “bump” is dissipating.
The Original Mavericks, huh? Dirk and Stackhouse are Mavericks. Deez Bamas is some Clippers.
